Here are some of my favorite things in my apartment in nyc. Since I’m always showing pictures of things I love, I thought I’d include some of my own stuff. The chest and the clock are vintage pieces from my house in Montreal. It helped make my apartment feel more like home. My grandmother made the painting of the birds.

As I’ve said in a previous post, my moms a great decorator. She’s amazing at creating DIY things for really cheap. She made that lamp, the box on the window sill and the shelf on the wall. For the box, she got a beautiful vintage lunch box and placed fake flowers in it. For the shelf, she took a white one, painted it gold and placed two paper plates from Mackenzie Childs. Then she took three little rocking chairs, painted them pink, placed a candle in them and plastic green leaves around it. She painted my bathroom a mix of deep purple, white and gold. She also bought me that beautiful little mosaic table as moving in present. Isn’t it gorgeous?

The Catcher in the Rye poster was a move in present from my brother. My brother and I have a lot of similarities to Holden and Phoebe’s relationship, as I’m sure many siblings do, so the present was really meaningful.

Greg got me the coasters and the Buddha. He also got me the frame on the top left. That was our one year anniversary present. In it is a picture of us at a hockey game that we went to on our first date and the ticket from the game, with “this is waking up” written at the top. I couldn’t believe he kept the ticket! And the funny part is that for our one year anniversary I got him a pocket watch with the exact same quote engraved on the inside. It’s a lyric from a song by Magic Numbers that isn’t even one of our favourite songs, yet we both chose it to describe how we felt towards one another. When we exchanged gifts and realized that we had both chosen the same lyric we sat there in complete awe.

Here are the lyrics from the song, called This Love. If you don’t already known the Magic Numbers you should check them out, they’re really good.

Through the gates of lying she left
Through the years I’ve wept
Lying face down in the ground
And I can’t hold you now
Why did I choose to refuse you
It’s not that I used you
I left when I should have
Believed that I couldn’t hold on
But you never let go
Or at least I think so

And if all I’ve got are these tears
Will the sun come up
And rid me of darkness again
Throw my hands up

Why did I choose to refuse you
It’s not that I used you
And all of my words were withheld
And not heard, I did fall
But you never let go
Or at least I think so

Oooh, since you know that I’m here
Oooh, since you know that I’m here

This love
This heart
This is waking up
